I am a committed community advocate.
Committed to Our Schools
I show up for our schools.
I serve with the PTA and as a classroom volunteer and am a parent volunteer on the library committee at South Davis Jr High. I love books, libraries, and helping children foster a love for reading!
I serve on the Community Councils at South Davis Jr High and Woods Cross High School. I previously served on the Community Council at Boulton Elementary.
Community Councils improve the quality of education, by involving parents in decision-making. We work with school administration to ensure School Trust Land funds are used wisely. I have taken this stewardship of public funds very seriously. I will continue to be vigilant and respectful of the public funds the taxpayers give to public education.
I am the only candidate with children currently in the Davis District. As an involved parent, I know how to show up for our kids effectively. Parent’s rights must be balanced by parent’s responsibilities. I will empower families to support their students. I will continue to show up and work with, not against, our teachers, librarians, and schools.
Committed life-long educator
I have demonstrated a life-long commitment to education. I have extensive classroom experience working with students from pre-school to adulthood.
As an instructor at Horizonte Instruction and Training Center (the alternative school for Salt Lake School District), I taught English, Humanities, and Advisory to young parents and adults. I helped hundreds of students earn high school diplomas.
In Houston, I worked for Citizen Schools to empower public schools and communities to work together to create experience-based learning opportunities for marginalized junior high students.
In New Zealand, in connection with the Ministry of Education, I cooperatively managed an early childhood education center focused on child-led learning and parental involvement.
In Utah, I worked for ProLiteracy and wrote and tested a business start-up curriculum for adult English language learners.
In Guatemala, I worked with the Guatemalan National Literacy Committee to train teachers, living in refugee camps, to use participatory literacy methodologies.
As a missionary in the Dominican Republic, I led county-wide Church literacy efforts and later trained missionaries at the Missionary Training Center in Provo.
I understand that educational needs are as varied as each individual. As a member of the Davis School Board, I will actively listen and seek insight from our current classroom teachers in all decision-making.
Committed to our community
I show up for South Davis.
As the Former Director of Client Services and Volunteer Coordinator at the Bountiful Food Pantry, helped pantry clients connect with resources and develop plans for self-reliance. I also scheduled, trained, and coordinated over 400 volunteers each week. I helped develop the “No Hunger Zone” partnership with Davis School District, providing Pantry Packs and other food-related support to students throughout our district. I helped start the first district in-school food pantry at Northridge HS, the predecessor to our Teen Centers.
I’ve been a Girl Scout troop leader for over 10 years. My troop worked to have the statue of Martha Hughes Cannon represent Utah in the United States Hall of Statues. I also serve as a local leader in my church women's organization.
I have the support and trust of our community leaders because they know my commitment to South Davis County. I am supported by both of our Utah state representatives, Rep Ray Ward and Rep Melissa Garff Ballard, Bountiful Mayor Kendalyn Harris, and the majority of members of the City Council in Bountiful, North Salt Lake, and Woods Cross.
I look forward to continuing my commitment to public service as a member of the Davis School Board. Let's work together to support our students, families, teachers, and our wonderful Davis District Schools!
Committed mother
I’m a mom of three kids who attend school in the Davis School District. I am the only candidate with children currently attending school in our district.
I am in our schools. I help with lunch duty. I go to parent-teacher conferences. I drive carpools. My husband, Lonnie, and I help our kids with homework. We go to musical theater productions and orchestra concerts. We show up for our kids and are actively involved in their education. Being a member of the Davis School Board is personal to me and my family.
As a parent, I have experience with AP tests, honors classes, resource classes, speech services, IEPs, and 504s. I often get calls from friends and neighbors asking for help navigating our schools.
My only agenda is for the Davis School District to provide the best possible education to the children in our community.
