Hi there! 👋 I am Alisa Allred Mercer and I am running for Davis School Board (SB1). I'm running because I am the mother of three children in the Davis School District and I care about quality schools and education. I am grateful for the dedication of Davis School District teachers and staff who have helped me educate my children over the last decade. I want to serve the students of the Davis School District
Education has always been important to me. My mother was a 2nd-grade teacher. I attended Brigham Young University, where I studied Sociology and International Development.
As a missionary, I helped lead literacy efforts in the Dominican Republic. After my mission, I trained missionaries at the MTC. Before becoming a parent, I trained teachers in literacy methodologies in Guatemalan refugee camps. I worked with adults completing their High School diplomas and developed curriculum for adult English language learners in Utah.
I am committed to my community. I am a Girl Scout troop leader. I also serve in a leadership role in my church women's organization. For several years, I served students and families throughout Davis County as the Client Services Manager and Volunteer Coordinator at the Bountiful Food Pantry.
In my children's schools, I have served on the PTA and as a classroom volunteer. For the past eight years, I have served on the Community Councils at Boulton Elementary, South Davis Jr High, and Woods Cross High School. The purposes of school community councils are to involve parents in decision-making at the school level, improve the quality of education of students, and prudently manage State School Funds. I have taken this stewardship of public funds very seriously. As your school board representative, I will continue to be vigilant and respectful of the public funds given by the taxpayers to public education in our school district.
I look forward to continuing my commitment to public service as a member of the Davis School Board.
I would love your support!
Strong schools build strong communities. As your school board member, I envision a district where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to excel.
An excellent public education system is one of society's most important duties. When done well, it graduates citizens who become learners, parents, teachers, and great leaders.
Students-
Every child has the right to attend a school where they feel safe, welcomed, represented, understood, included, and encouraged to thrive. As your school board member, I will advocate for policies that create a safe and productive learning environment where every student can excel.
Family Engagement and Empowerment-
Research shows, time and time again, that family engagement is the single most important factor in student success. It overcomes socioeconomic status, race, and ethnicity. As your school board member, I will encourage and empower family involvement in education, including training families on the tools that are already in place to help them be empowered to support their student’s education.
Teachers-
Teachers are our community members, our neighbors, and our friends. Teachers need to be respected as professionals and experts in their field. The school board should work to empower teachers to meet student's individual needs- while removing excess red tape and other obstacles to teaching. As your school board member, I will empower and respect teachers and I will not bully them in policy decisions or on social media.
Communities-
The economic stability of our community is dependent upon great schools. Property values are strengthened when districts provide well-equipped schools, including libraries, sports facilities, science labs, and technology resources. Good schools make a community more desirable. Communities benefit from schools that are diverse, integrated, and inclusive. As your school board member, I will always make policy decisions that are based on promoting successful and vibrant communities.
I will listen to students, parents, teachers, staff, and community members. Together we can create strong schools and build a resilient community.
